Best text about WRO 2015: Contest
Writing about the 16th WRO Media Art Biennale: A competition sponsored by the Rector of the University of Wrocław
This year, Wrocław University is collaborating extensively with the Biennale organizers, the WRO Art Center. The main venue for this year’s Biennale exhibitions, discussions and conferences will be the new Wrocław University Library building.
For the first time, a competition sponsored by the Chancellor of Wrocław University is being held to recognize the best piece of prose writing about the WRO 2015 Biennale by a Wrocław University student.
The entries can be about specific works, events, exhibitions or venues that are part of the WRO Biennale – about theoretical issues addressed by WRO 2015 works or performances – or about the artistic ideas driving the Biennale. The best piece of prose (which may be an essay, a review, a report or a commentary) will be awarded a 500 PLN prize and will be published in the next issue of the art journal Format, which will be devoted mainly to WRO 2015. Details about the competition can be found on the Wroclaw University and/or WRO Art Center websites.
The WRO Biennale is Poland’s largest international contemportary art event, presenting a wide range of works created using new media. The WRO 2015 program includes screenings, installations, performances, concerts, interactive projects, workshops, conferences and discussions, as well as a Little WRO program for kids. More than 250 artists and guests from around the world will be participating in the Biennale, which will present a diverse array of works in terms of subjects, media and the level of production, providing a comprehensive survey of current uses of digital media and artistic responses to the phenomena of the technosphere and contemporary medialized reality. The main WRO Biennale exhibitions will be open through June 30th 2015.
