About WRO
The WRO Media Art Biennale is the major forum for new media art in Poland, and one of the leading international art events in Central Europe. Since its inception in 1989, WRO has been presenting art forms created using new media for artistic expression and communication, exploring current creative territories and building a critical perspective toward emerging issues in art, technology and society.
Over the years, the WRO Biennales have raised a variety of questions about creative approaches to new technologies and the creative crossover realms that arise where art and science, economics and social activism intersect.
The previous edition of the WRO Biennale – WRO 2013 Pioneering Values Biennale – was held at eighteen sites around the city of Wrocław: museums, galleries, art house cinemas, department stores, old factory halls and public space, where the works of over 200 artists were shown. The exhibitions, concerts, performances, video projections, installations and conferences were attended by more than a thousand accredited guests and over 110,000 visitors.
The WRO 2013 Pioneering Values on Tour, a series of presentations that sumarized the 15th edition of the Biennale, visited 20 art centers in Poland, Italy, France, Israel, Denmark, Russia and Ukraine.
The WRO Biennale is organized by the WRO Media Art Center Foundation and WRO Art Center.
